Performance
Performance is quite possibly the biggest factor when choosing a Desktop PC to buy as this alone determines the emotional state that you will be in whilst using the PC. Initially, the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC has a decent performance meaning that it runs all the basic functions a PC needs to run at a smooth pace. However, after using the PC for a year, we find that the performance is frustratingly slow, showing us that cheap PCs like this one always start off well but deteriorate immensely fast. With that being said, the performance score that I personally would give is a low 4.
Start Up Time
Start up time is a huge component when choosing a Desktop PC since you don't want to waste 5 minutes of your day waiting for your PC to load up, that's 1,825 minutes of your year wasted! When you first get the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC, after it has been setup, you will find that it takes on average 48 seconds to fully load up to the GUI (Graphical User Interface) which is pretty good. On the other hand, after a year of use, the Desktop PC's start up time drops astonishingly to an average of 203 seconds to fully load up the GUI (Graphical User Interface). Taking this into account, we can clearly see the gaping difference, giving the start up time a petty score of 4.
Storage
Storage is more than just how much space there is on the PC. Storage is about how the performance will be affected by the programs and applications stored within that space. In simple terms, will the performance drop as the storage space fills up? There is 1TB storage available on the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC which looks good on paper, but is it really? To test this I ran the performance with no extra files, applications or programs installed, which came to a decent performance. Afterwards, I downloaded many big files, applications and programs (this took a very long time!) into the storage of the PC then ran the performance to find out that the performance had dropped to a moderate performance, showing us that it has some great storage capabilities for what you pay for. For me, this gave the PC a strong comeback storage score of 8.
Features
Update photo booth for mac. The PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC has no additional features other than the bare bone basics that every PC has, giving it a fat Zero in the score department.
Setup
Setting up a Desktop PC is a one-time task for near all users, nevertheless it is a task that most dread performing. You want the setup to be easy and straightforward with little time needed to install the PC. The time I took to set the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC up was 3 minutes, however I have setup many Desktop PC's before so I got an average casual computer user to set it up. This took them 10 minutes and upon setup this person stated 'It's a pretty basic computer which I think even my kid could eventually set up and use himself haha'. I chose to score this based on both the casual computer user's and my setup attempt with a top score of 10.
Security
Every Desktop PC has some sort of security in play, but it is not the security itself that is the problem, it is the frustration of pointless security messages and performance draining security software that comes pre-installed. Naturally, the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC had McAfee come pre-installed. Upon first Login, I was hit with the standard introductory messages which is no big deal, however the McAfee security software had bombarded me with messages every hour once the 30 day free trial had worn off which was extremely irritating. Continuing, to test how much performance was being drained, I took the original performance of a smooth super-fast performance then removed the McAfee software and took a more accurate representation of the PC's true potential performance that came to a near perfect performance that felt at least 10% faster than before (I did this before filling up the storage). Taking McAfee's annoyances into account, I gave the PC an awful Security score of 2.
Price
Pricing is not always as it seems, many deals are outrageous rip offs yet many deals are outstanding bargains without explicitly telling you. To acquire the true price of the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC, we must add up the functionality scores from above, then compare that to its retail price of £299.99. 28/60 is the total score for the PC, giving it an actual value of £249.99 in my honest opinion meaning that it is a rip off, yet what can you really expect from buying a cheap PC?
Conclusion
In conclusion, the PACKARD BELL iMedia S3730 Desktop PC is recommended for Casual Users due to the ineffectiveness of most every aspect of the PC except for the fact that it is simple, easy to set up and performs all the basic functions a casual user needs. In addition, the PC specification claims are pretty far off as it does perform as stated on purchase, however the PC just does not perform as stated the year after. Furthermore, the overall CBA (Cost Benefit Analysis) suggests that the PC is worth the money if you will only use it to perform basic functions, if you are trying to squeeze more out of it then it is just simply better to spend more money on a PC. Finally, in my honest opinion, I believe that this is a basic simple PC for basic simple people that just need basic simple things done on it.
