Mac mini fans recently rejoiced after Apple updated the storied compact Mac after two years without a major overhaul. But for DIY types, the new Mac mini is a mixed bag offering both heartache and promise.

- In order to enable Fusion Drive Technology on a Mac Mini (late 2014) we install a PCIe Express Flash SSD (we used actually one from a Mac Book Pro Retina 201.
- The Mac mini 2014 has potential support for two different types of storage drive. It can support a standard 2.5' SATA drive (spinning hard drive or SSD), and it can also support an M2 PCI SSD. This M2 PCI SSD uses Apple's proprietary connector and is therefore slightly different to the normal M2 connector.
The teardown experts over at iFixit recently took apart the base model 2014 Mac Mini with a 500GB hard drive and 1.4GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 processor. The DIY site found that upgrading the Mac mini's RAM is now pretty much impossible, but adding an internal SSD at a later date just might be doable.
Cool icons for mac. The impact on you at home: Depending on a company's design needs, a device's internals can vary widely between generations. One year, a new smartphone or laptop may be the easiest thing in the world to upgrade, while the next model can end up being very unfriendly to do-it-yourself fixes and tweaks. Apple's 2014 Mac mini is a perfect example of this, where swapping out or adding common components is now much more difficult—though it also adds the new possibility of PCIe-powered SSD upgrades.
This JetDrive 850 SSD can be used in different models of Mac computers, such as MacBook Pro (late 2013-mid 2015), MacBook Air (mid 2013-2017), Mac mini (late 2014), and Mac Pro (late 2013). As to the Mac OS, it supports MacOS High Sierra (10.13) and the later version. All Tools You Need. You can find all tools you will need in the package of.

RAM fixation
The first thing iFixit discovered was that Apple switched out easy access to the RAM, which used to sit in slots right underneath the Mac mini's bottom cover.
Making matters worse, once you dig a little deeper iFixit found that there were no pop-out RAM slots at all. Instead, the RAM is soldered directly onto the logic board. In other words, make sure you get enough memory for your potential needs when you're ordering your computer, because you can't upgrade it afterwards.
Digging deeper, iFixit found another bummer: The new Mac mini doesn't come with an empty SATA port, as past models have. Diagnostico microbiologico koneman pdf descargar. That means you can't add an extra internal hard drive at home as you could have in the past.
But where Apple taketh away, Apple also giveth… probably. The SATA port is gone, but iFixit also found what it thinks is a socket for a PCIe cable that could allow you to add a blade SSD.
Adding to the DIY excitement, iFixit later found a mounting point for a 'blade-style PCIe SSD.' To test the mounting point, iFixit took an SSD ripped from a recent iMac teardown and discovered the drive fit nicely inside the Mac mini mount.
The DIY site says it plans on tearing down one of the more expensive models of the new Mac mini packed with a Fusion Drive to confirm their suspicions. Apple's Fusion Drive technology combines a standard hard drive and an SSD to create a single, user-facing storage system as opposed to two separate drives.
If the new set-up does turn out to be the real thing that's not only good news for anyone hoping to rip apart their Mac mini at home—it also means iFixit can update its Mac mini Dual Drive upgrade kit.

Does anyone know, if you order a 2014MM with the PCIe installed instead of the HD, is that bay just wide open?In theory, you could just order the Ifixit kit and install the cable and HD, retaining the PCIe (if no immediate upgrade is offered).Yes, the bay is wide open and does not include any hardware or SATA flex cable to connect a hard drive. The ifixit teardown page has a reply from someone who appears to be from ifixit and verified the SATA cable they sell from the 2012 Mini does indeed work.Says they are working on a complete kit with the tools and hardware as well. The TR6 driver seems to be the issue. My tech toolkit happened to have one, and they are available from other sources.
One would have to take a rough measurement of where the upper bay SATA plug is based on photos of both versions. From the picture posted it looks like it might be close. The frame appears to have the same or similar mounting holes for the HDD grommets and screws.
I keep meaning to ask him this too as mine hasn't showed.I contacted them the other day to find out about mine and they said they were having issues getting them .Apparently Apple said they could order them then changed their mind, maybe once they realised what everyone will be doing. They are now trying to get it by by ordering the whole drive holder which also has the cable included.
Got the part and its just the retaining plate and screw ,so perhaps the part number is incorrect, 076-00018 the description seems to suggest this includes the cable ,but this does not seem to be the case. Game dibawah 100mb for pc.
There is another part number which also says includes the flex cable -076-00040 - HDD Carrier & SSD PCIe Flex Cable. Not sure why you would need the carrier/tray though .I have also found been sent this from a store owner todayhttp://www.yourmacstore.com/pcie-ssd-installation-kit-for-mac-mini-late-2014/Fairly pricey including shipping to the UK though
This is the part number I see on Apple's service guide for the 2014 Mini.'Hard drive carrier w/ Flash storage flex cable 076-00040'
FYI 076-00040 is the right part! Will post pictures later to prove it but if definitely has the PCIE cable!

I am happy to report that I received the part from Applecomponents and it is the real deal-it's an entire HDD bracket with the SSD PCIe connector attached to the top.I connected it to the PCIe SSD connector on a 2014 Mini, plugged in a 256GB Apple SSD, and it booted right up perfectly.I had considered just trying to remove the SSD cable from the bracket and just attach it to the existing bracket in my Mini. This would save a considerable amount of disassembly, but I found the cable seems a bit fragile and is attached with high strength glue,so I did not want to risk tearing the cable and just replaced the entire drive bracket, completely disassembling the computer in the process.Note that the 2.9mm T5 screw to hold down the other end of the SSD is not included-there are threads to accept the screw, but does anyone know where to get one of these screws? All the usual sources don't seem to have it.http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=20562190&postcount=61http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=20562239&postcount=62http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=20564411&postcount=64
